St. Louis Community College at Forest Park was hit with $200,000 worth of water damage from a coffee machine hooked up to a faucet in the photography lab. It was left on and eventually ruptured a waterline in July causing 10,000 gallons of water to gush down four floors damaging walls, ceilings, and computers among other things.
Cleanup costs will approach $143,494 based on a proposed contract with a disaster-recovery company. The school’s Board of Trustees hope it will be out only the $25,000 insurance deductible plus another $54,000 for other expenses, including overtime costs.![]()
Moral of the story: turn off the coffee machine!
